• 来自网友【Lucas_yu】的评论I have to say movies are quite different with books themselves. A national epic of Anglo-Saxon period，a hero named Beowulf，the monster Grendel and his mother the she-monster. Similar characters but within different plots. I would rather say it is a story about devil and salvation. Danish king Hrothgar desires for huge powers and crown and beauties. He was abducted by the sea monster and left his descendant —— another ugly monster，who destroys his grand feasting. So brave and valiant Beowulf appears and kills it. But I have seen the disappointing appearance of Grendel. Hrothgar’s devil indicates in the deal with she-monster while his salvation is that he commits suicide finally. Beowulf is abducted too and this time a fire dragon comes to destroy his whole ruling. And then the abduction to the following king. Beowulf is regarded by all his people the national hero， however， he says he has died during the war with Grendel’s mother since he accepts the devilish deal. In order to keep his role，he and his army become the alleged devil to slay other tribes. He enjoys the huge power and beauties and crown but he loses himself. He can't always be a hero without sins. Just like what he says to his queen ，do not see me as a hero but a man ，defective. His salvation may appear in the disclosure of his disguise but only to the queen and new king. When I read the introduction of the book， I think it is an epic to praise the hero but after watching this movie it is more like a salvation. The pride is the curse.
